First Lesson

Dance lessons start on Sunday September 11. There will be two classes this year.  Click here for a downloadable flyer.

Beginning Ballroom I is at 6:00 PM.  This class is for couples who have never danced, or couples that need a refresher lesson.  The class starts with lead / follow techniques, and a quick introduction to Fortrot, Waltz, Rumba and East Coast Swing.  By the end of the first hour you will have four steps.  The first night of class is busy so show up about 15 minutes early to get signed in and to meet and greet the other couples.  So, what to expect during this first lesson:

  • You will be dancing with your own partner during the classes, so be sure to bring along someone you like.  You are going to be stuck with them.
  • Dress comfortably and casual.  Dance can be a little bit of a workout and you will be stretching some muscles you've not used often.
  • Slick soled or leather soled shoes work best.  You want a shoe that allows your foot to slide.  Ladies, wear flats or short heals.
  • Don't worry about making a fool of yourself on the dance floor. In fact, try to on occasion.  Keep in mind that everyone starts with no experience and everyone is a student.
  • Be ready to have some fun.

Advanced dancers.
In the 7:00 PM class we are going to introduce you to some new dances and to some new steps.  If you liked Tango and Rumba,be assured that you will get more Tango and Rumba.  We will also introduce Mambo and Merengue.  Both of these are independent dances, and both can be used with Salsa music.  This class will give you some new challenges, and will change the way to dance.  If all goes well, we might even introduce you to Cha Cha one night. This is probably the dance Marty and I enjoy the most.  This will be a workshop style class, and will be paced according the experience level of students.
